Did you hear the news? The construction of The Grand Appeal’s Patient Hotel, Jingle Jam Building, has officially commenced!
On Tuesday 24 February 2026, members of The Grand Appeal, Jingle Jam, Bristol Children’s Hospital and Helen Godwin, the West of England Mayor, came together to turn the first ceremonial spade of soil. This celebration officially marked the start of construction on The Grand Appeal’s Patient Hotel.

The Grand Appeal’s Patient Hotel, also known as Jingle Jam Building, is set to be a groundbreaking facility which will allow patients to stay with their families while receiving ongoing therapy and rehabilitation when they no longer require around-the-clock inpatient care.
The first of its kind in the UK, this project will change the lives of young patients and their families across the South West and South Wales. Families like George’s told us how much this facility would have transformed their time at Bristol Children’s Hospital.
At just three years old, George suffered a stroke in the part of his brain that controls movement. The family spent the following three months at Bristol Children’s Hospital as George underwent treatment and physiotherapy. George’s mum, Sara, told us:
Sara, George’s MumTo know that future families, like ours and those we met, will have the opportunity to access this incredible facility fills me with hope and happiness.
The celebrations didn’t end there. Patients at Bristol Children’s Hospital may have been unable to join the excitement on the construction site, but they had their own celebration in the hospital’s Activities Centre.
The children enjoyed an afternoon of ride-on mini diggers, building bricks and getting stuck into sand stations. And, of course, we didn’t forget the hard hats!

Meanwhile, staff from the neurorehabilitation team, key collaborators in shaping the Patient Hotel, were treated to a delivery of construction-themed cupcakes.

We’re thrilled that work has begun on this groundbreaking project. Thank you – once again – to our friends at Jingle Jam who have helped raise over £2.66 million for the development so far. With from this fantastic team and the community around them, our blueprints our now becoming a reality.
