Our superstar team of 13 took on the British Transplant Games last weekend. Read on to hear more about the day, and why events like these are so important.
The British Transplant Games saw thousands of children, young people and adults come together in a celebration of life last weekend. Held in Oxford this year, the games get bigger and better every year as the awareness of the importance of organ donation grows.
Our team of 13 smashed the games, earning themselves nine medals (including five golds!) in a variety sports. There is so much on offer to all ages and abilities at the games, from archery to tennis, running to swimming, and even a competitive game of tug of war!

The donor run, which everyone can get involved in, was great fun while inspiring some friendly competition and ambition. And on the last day, the team danced with a diplodocus and boogied with a brontosaurus for their closing party held in the Natural History Musem.
Plus: A big shout out to Izzy, who took part in her first competitive swimming race this year and won silver for her efforts!
Jess and Emily, Lighthouse Ward nursesAttending the British Transplant Games is more than just a weekend away; it’s a celebration of life, resilience and the incredible stories of our patients and their families.
As nurses, it’s a privilege to witness the strength and unity that shine throughout the games. These moments highlight the journey of transplantation and deepen the bonds between us all, which is something that is very special to us.

For one weekend, children are surrounded by an ocean of understanding and support. Everyone at the games will know the importance of organ donation and transplantation first-hand. From organ donors and their families, whose selflessness gives someone the gift of life, to transplant recipients themselves.
Children like Noah, who has been in and out of Bristol Children’s Hospital for most of his life for kidney problems, is a beacon of resilience in the face of lifelong health battles.

We were thrilled to fund and facilitate the team’s travel and accommodation for the games. Ensuring access to such a positive and vital celebration is something we’re proud to put in place every year.
This summer, we couldn’t have done it without the help of these wonderful supporters:
