The Grand Appeal funds vital coronavirus research

We’re immensely proud to be funding a new, ground-breaking research project exploring coronavirus.

Proving their dedication knows no bounds, frontline NHS staff from Bristol will take part in a vital project led by specialists from Bristol Children’s Hospital and the University of Bristol. As part of its research, over 100 members of the children’s Emergency Department will be monitored, helping to provide much-needed data on how the coronavirus evolves in healthy adults.

The rapid response of our main charitable funder at Bristol Children’s Hospital, The Grand Appeal has enabled us to set up this important study in record time.

Throughout our 25 year history, we have worked arm-in-arm with Bristol Children’s Hospital and the University of Bristol to fund pioneering projects that pave the way for a brighter future for sick babies and children. With research needed now more than ever, it’s important we support our partners in the fight against coronavirus.

This study will tell us a lot about how this infection occurs, when people may infect others, when they develop immune responses and, hopefully, how well those responses protect them against reacquiring the infection.
