New parent beds funded for Bristol Children’s Hospital

Having to undergo treatment can be scary enough as a child, but can you imagine staying in hospital overnight without your loved one’s close to you?

When Bristol Children’s Hospital moved from its original site on St Michael’s Hill to its present home on Upper Maudlin Street in 2001, we funded a pull-down bed for every patient bed. As the hospital has expanded into the pioneer it is today, we have continued to support these facilities.

Here at The Grand Appeal, we want to help keep families together as much as possible. That’s as true as it is today as it was 20 years ago.

Knowing how important a restful night’s sleep is to our families, we’re excited to announce that we have completed the refurbishment or replacement of existing parent beds at the children’s hospital and have funded the installation of new beds too.

This project is a part of our commitment to providing accommodation for families in all its forms. Parents now have access to a comfortable and modern pull-down bed so they can be there for their sick child day and night.

These beds are used every day. They’re essential not only to the ward but for parents too. Some of the beds were broken, uncomfortable, unusable or challenging to set up. Parents now have somewhere they can rest or sleep overnight.

We also provide free accommodation for families travelling from across the region. Cots for Tots House, Paul’s House, and Grand Appeal House are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and are just a stone’s throw away from Bristol Children’s Hospital and St Michael’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Whether it’s a week, month or a year stay at our charity accommodation houses or a night’s sleep on a pull-down bed, it’s thanks to you we can be there for families when they need it most.
