Five fantastic past and present patients from Lighthouse Ward in Bristol Children’s Hospital are competing in this year’s British Transplant Games, representing #TeamGrandAppeal!
The British Transplant Games, held every year, celebrate life after transplants. It’s a fantastic weekend of athletics, with over 25 sports for participants to take part in. Children as young as five can join the games.
We know how important it is for patients to attend the games – which is why each year, we fund travel, accommodation and entry costs for each amazing participant. This weekend, five patients from Bristol Children’s Hospital’s Lighthouse Ward, which treats a variety of issues including kidney problems, will travel to Coventry to take part in the games, with their families cheering them on.
They’ll be easy to spot in their brightly coloured Grand Appeal t-shirts and hoodies keeping them warm and comfy throughout the weekend.
Last year, our wonderful team brought home bronze medals.
Dad of a 2022 participant“We had a blast at the Transplant Games! Thank you so much for the support from Wallace and Gromit’s Grand Appeal. We haven’t had much of a chance to get away this year and being able to spend a long weekend in Leeds was fantastic.”
This year, #TeamGrandAppeal brought home lots of medals – and a whole load of smiles.
We are incredibly proud of our terrific transplant team for showing the world just how brilliant they are!
We’d like to say a big thank you to Kidney Care UK for supporting our team at the games again this year.
