Virgin Money London Marathon 2022 – Charity Place

Please note that The Grand Appeal has one place in the 2022 Virgin Money London Marathon taking place on Sunday 2 October 2022, and the place is given on an application basis only. Completing the application form does not guarantee you a place.

The following terms and conditions apply to those successful in securing a charity place.

For this event, we require a registration fee of £100 (non-refundable and non-transferable), which must be paid within one month after we confirm your charity place with you.

In addition, you pledge to raise a minimum of £2,000 (excluding registration fee, pre-meet registration fees, and gift aid) in sponsorship money for The Grand Appeal, which should be received by The Grand Appeal by the end of December 2022.

We recognise that fundraising takes place at different times in the marathon journey, both before and after the event itself. However, our experience tells us that the vast majority of fundraising usually occurs before the event. Therefore, to give you some milestones to aim for, we request the following minimum amounts to be met:

-£500 by the end of April 2022

-£1,000 by the end of June 2022

-At least £2,000 (in total) by event day (Sunday 2 October 2022)

-The final £500 before 25th December

Your fundraising will be reviewed regularly to enable The Grand Appeal to support you, however, failure to achieve a minimum amount of £500 by the end of April 2021 could result in your place being forfeited. The Grand Appeal understands that there are often valid reasons for delays with fundraising due to event plans, so please get in touch (stacey@grandappeal.org.uk) to discuss this further if applicable.

The Grand Appeal does not defer charity places over to the next year.

You will be required to complete a registration form on the entry registration system for the organisers (the ‘console’). If you do not complete the form by your given deadline, you will lose your place and will not be entitled to a refund of your registration fee.

You confirm that you are medically fit and that you participate in the event at your own risk. The Grand Appeal will not be held responsible for injury or illness resulting from your participation in the event.

You understand that it is your responsibility to read any terms and conditions issued by the race organisers and to comply with these.

The minimum age for this event is 18 years old. You confirm you will be the minimum age on race day (Sunday 2 October 2022).

You acknowledge that The Grand Appeal may incur costs as a result of you joining The Grand Appeal Marathon Team (e.g., cost of producing and sending fundraising pack/technical kit) for this event. The objective is to raise at least £2,000.

All participants understand that any products distributed at the event are subject to availability and may be withdrawn or substituted if necessary.

As the event is external to The Grand Appeal, The Grand Appeal shall not be liable for any loss or damage that participants suffer as a result of taking part in the event.

Should you, for whatever reason, not take your place, all sponsorship forms and monies collected should be forwarded to The Grand Appeal or returned to your sponsors.

You have provided The Grand Appeal information about you and consent to The Grand Appeal using this data. You understand that it will be necessary for The Grand Appeal to share the data with the race organiser in order for you to participate in this event.

The Grand Appeal does not sell or swap your details with any third parties, but in order to carry out its work, The Grand Appeal may need to pass your details to service companies authorised to act on the charity’s behalf. For further information, please see The Grand Appeal’s privacy policy.

The Grand Appeal will keep your details on its database so we can provide you with the best possible support every time you contact the charity.

All participants, supporters and spectators, including friends and families who choose to attend the event confirm that they are happy for their names, video footage, photographs taken of them during the event to be used to publicise the event by The Grand Appeal for commercial and fundraising purposes including, but not limited to marketing material, television broadcasts, social media, advertising, publications, and other documents or mediums that may be made available to the public. Photographs of children will not be used in this manner without express written consent; unless the images are incidental.
