From funding specialist staff to state-of-the-art equipment and family accommodation, we make sure Bristol Children’s Hospital can offer children and their families the very best experience.

It’s been twenty years since Ocean Unit was built. Ever since the demand for its services has grown and grown.

Wanting to create a warm, welcoming, age-appropriate environment that patients deserve, our latest project has seen Ocean Unit undergo a refurbishment.

Light and airy, our team has given the unit a ship-shape makeover with illustrations of beach huts, palm trees and pirate ships now decorating the walls.

The transformation will make a huge difference to the nearly 400 children and young people cared for by Ocean Unit each year, giving them a calming environment to receive treatment in and a welcome distraction.

Children and young people from Bristol and beyond travel to Ocean Unit. Some are undergoing chemotherapy or day surgery, while others need care for a blood disorder or bone marrow transplant.

“What a transformation! Ocean [Unit] is now a bright, friendly and a happier place to be for everyone. Amazing!”

Jo, Ocean Unit Play Specialist

And do you know who made this project a reality? You! We want to thank our fundraising family – B&Q Foundation and countless other selfless companies, groups and individuals – who have all made a life-changing difference to sick children.

Ocean Unit’s refurbishment is just one of the projects funded by us each year. It’s all thanks to the help of our wonderful supporters, we can continue to bring smiles to young patients.
