Fundraisers create special recipe book

Our supporters are never short of fundraising ideas and with the challenges the pandemic has brought, Team Grand Appeal has had to get even more inventive!

Angela and Clair got creative in their desire to help make a difference. Lockdown Recipes Remembered is a special project supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital and a whole host of other amazing causes. We spoke to Angela to find out more.

“Like many others, I felt helpless during lockdown. Despite being able to connect virtually with friends and family, I felt uneasy about the current state of affairs. Particularly, the future of charities and their ability to ride out this storm. Creating Lockdown Recipes Remembered was my way of converting my concern into a tangible response.

“The inspiration came from seeing a page out of an old recipe notebook posted on social media. It made me think of life back in 1983and the happiness I associated with making and sharing food together. Like that Lockdown Recipes Remembered was born out of happy memories. I quickly set about collecting recipes from people to document their life in lockdown.

“I was blown away by the positive reaction to the project. People from all walks of life contributed, including Stu Deeley, the 2019 winner of MasterChef The Professionals. His Thai Green Fishcakes recipe is foodie heaven! And there are plenty of recipes perfect for those ‘what can I rustle up from the cupboard’ moments as well as tried and tested recipes kindly shared by two excellent retired cookery teachers. There really is something for everyone.

“Supporting charities through the project was important to Clair and I. We asked each contributor about a cause close to their heart and decided we would offer Lockdown Recipes Remembered as a download for a £5 donation. And that’s how we came across The Grand Appeal. I already knew of Bristol Children’s Hospital and its wonderful staff after a good friend’s daughter was cared for there, but it was our contributor Fleur/Rebecca who was truly passionate about supporting Bristol Children’s Hospital.

My daughter Katie has been cared for by Bristol Children’s Hospital since she was four, and they have been utterly fantastic throughout. So, I jumped at the chance to be involved in this project and give something back.

Lockdown Recipes Remembered is brimming with mouth-watering recipes. I hope it captures this moment in time positively and encourages people to help those in need. Once you have donated, you can choose which charity to support. I know Fleur and Katie will be so thankful if that charity is The Grand Appeal.”

By supporting The Grand Appeal you can help change the lives of children like my daughter Katie.
