Barney’s 24-Hour Mall Walkathon

Barney with Wallace & Gromit before his fundraising walkathon

Former Bristol Children’s Hospital patient and superstar fundraiser, Barney, is taking on another epic challenge this Christmas. Right now, he’s walking the lengths of The Mall at Cribbs Causeway non-stop for 24 hours, all to raise money for the hospital that saved his life.

Ten-year-old Barney has been fundraising for sick and vulnerable children for the past four years, raising over £10,000. For the last two Christmases, Barney has focused his fantastic fundraising on Bristol Children’s Hospital. Born with two holes in his heart, Barney underwent heart surgery as a baby and has spent years taking on incredible challenges to support the hospital that saved his life.

Last year, Barney took on his first 12-hour marathon, walking across London city throughout the night.

This year, Barney is repeating the challenge a little closer to home. Our good friends at The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, where our flagship Gromit Unleashed store is located, are teaming up with Barney. He’ll be walking the length of the store for a full 24 hours – double his last challenge – from 10am 13 December to 10am 14 December.

Friends, family and local supporters are all warmly welcomed to come and cheer Barney on to help give him the motivation to finish this incredible challenge.

I want to give back to the hospital that mended my heart.

Barney

The money Barney raises will help purchase accessible video games, consoles and toys for sick children in Bristol Children’s Hospital. He’s determined to help beat the boredom and loneliness that can sometimes come with a long hospital stay.

This year, we were delighted to fund another new gaming console, thanks to Barney’s fundraising. They’re fully accessible, so even children who are too sick to leave their beds can still play.

Earlier this year, Barney’s selflessness was celebrated when he won ‘Overall Hero’ at the Bristol Young Heroes Awards. He also reached the finals for ‘Fundraiser of the Year’ at the BBC Make a Difference Awards.

If you’d like to support Barney during this selfless and difficult challenge, please consider leaving a donation and a kind message on his JustGiving page.
