The Dolphin ward at Bristol Children's Hospital
Known as the Dolphin Ward, the cardiac centre at Bristol Children's Hospital is a highly specialised service for the treatment and care of children requiring complex heart surgery and congenital heart problems, serving Bristol, the South West and further afield.
The Grand Appeal is currently funding a pioneering 3D printing service which will revolutionise operations and help patients and parents have a clearer understanding of even the most complex cardiac surgeries. This cutting-edge technology will enable the cardiac team to make exact copies of patients' hearts for them to plan, and even practice surgeries, before operations take place.
Once established, the service will also have the capacity to ‘bio-print’ using stem cells, dramatically decreasing the amount of operations a young patient needs. In the future, bio-printing will be applied to other non-cardiac diseases throughout the hospital.
This important facility will be one of the first of its kind in the UK, and can only be made possible with your support. Please donate today to help fund this life-changing service.
