In 2015, Aardman’s internationally-acclaimed character Shaun the Sheep appeared in Shaun in the City, two unique charity arts trails across Bristol and London raising funds for sick children in hospitals across the UK.
In July and August, 70 giant sculptures of Shaun, designed by artists and household names from the worlds of film, art, animation and fashion, adorned iconic locations and green spaces throughout Bristol to raise funds for The Grand Appeal.
On Thursday 8th October 2015, all 70 sculptures went under the hammer in a grand auction hosted by acclaimed Sotheby’s auctioneer Tim Wonnacott - a rare opportunity to take home an entirely unique work of art while raising funds to help sick children at Bristol Children’s Hospital. They were joined at auction by a further 50 giant Shauns from the London trail that took place in Spring 2015, with these proceeds benefitting Wallace & Gromit’s Children’s Charity.
We are thrilled at the success of the auction, which raised an incredible £1,087,900 in total!
We are so thankful to our eager Shaun-hunters for supporting The Grand Appeal through Shaun in the City. By downloading our Sheep-Spotter App, fundraising through sponsored Shaun hunts, visiting our Exhibitions and snapping up our special trail merchandise, our supporters have helped children like 4-year-old Lily (pictured above), an oncology patient at Bristol Children’s Hospital. Lily visited our Bristol trail with her grandfather to celebrate finally being given the all-clear by doctors in Summer 2015.
