Baby Fentan arrived early at just 23 weeks in October 2014.
Baby Fentan arrived early at just 23 weeks in October 2014, surprising parents Katie and Kevin. In December he was transferred to Cardiff hospital and received successful laser eye surgery and surgery on his bowel. However in January 2015 he was taken to St. Michael’s NICU for an emergency operation on his bowel.
For two months Katie and Kevin stayed close by in our home from home family accommodation, Cots for Tots House – Opposite the Special Care Baby Unit. The family are from Swindon, so our free family accommodation was a lifeline for them. Fentan was finally able to go home in March 2015, and he’s now a happy, healthy toddler who loves his food and has a very cheeky laugh!
Katie said, “Fentan’s arrival at 23 weeks was totally unexpected. We stayed at Cots for Tots House for just over two months while he had multiple surgeries. It was a really overwhelming time and I’m really glad we had somewhere so close to stay. Being from Swindon, it would have been too much for us to travel to and from hospital to be with him. We’re so thankful to the team at the special care baby unit and to Cots for Tots House for giving him such an amazing start in life. I hope his story gives other parents hope when they’re going through such a difficult experience."
As a thank you to Cots for Tots, dad Kevin ran the Swindon Half Marathon, raising a brilliant £350 for us.
We are very proud to help parents like Katie and Kevin stay near to their babies, for as long as they need, to receive vital treatment and care. We wouldn’t be able to provide free accommodation for so many families without the support of people like you, so please donate today and help us make a difference.
