2016 is a very special year for The Grand Appeal: it’s our 21st anniversary!
In 21 years we have raised a cracking £40million to support sick children at Bristol Children’s Hospital and their families.
To celebrate, we have presented every patient and every member of staff at the hospital with a special birthday gift. After all, it wouldn’t be a birthday without presents!
Each patient will receive their very own ‘Stats The Way We Did It, Lad!’ Gromit figurine. This bright pink pooch was designed by Aardman senior designer Gavin Strange for our Gromit Unleashed trail, and is covered in fun facts and top trivia all about Aardman. The full-sized version was kindly donated to the hospital on long-term loan by its new owners after the grand sculpture auction, and has become a familiar sight for patients.
We have also given each member of hospital staff a commemorative 21st anniversary pin badge to mark this celebratory occasion!
Peter Lord, co-founder of Aardman and our charity’s chairman, visited the hospital’s cardiac ward earlier this month to present the first gifts to staff and patients.
Peter Lord said, “The Grand Appeal’s 21st anniversary and the £40million it has raised since it was founded is a fantastic achievement and a true cause for celebration.
“The money raised has made an enormous difference to the lives of these young patients, and I am very proud of the part that Aardman and Wallace & Gromit have had to play in that success. It has been a great honour to remain so closely involved with the charity’s work over the last 21 years and look forward to many more successes in the future.”
