Pioneering project in partnership with The Yogscast
When a sick child needs prolonged and complex treatment in hospital, therapy and rehabilitation are crucial steps in their journey to recovery, and in being well enough to go home.
That’s why we’re developing a pioneering facility, thanks to the support of Yogscast and its community of fans across the world. By offering free, homely accommodation to young patients and their parents alongside a range of on-site therapies, this development will play a really important part in bridging the gap between needing round-the-clock care in hospital and going home.
Children who are well enough to not need round-the-clock care, but still require intensive physio and other forms of therapy, will be able to stay in our facility. There, they’ll be able to learn how to walk again, talk again and build their confidence back up in a homely environment, before making the final step in the road to recovery, and reality.
As the only dedicated children’s hospital covering the South West and South Wales, many children travel miles to Bristol for specialist treatment, like the Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy – an operation which is only available at four children’s hospital’s in the entire country, and which requires an extensive programme of intensive physiotherapy following the operation. Patients in need of procedures like these, and many others at Bristol Children’s Hospital, will be hugely benefitted by the building of this unparalleled development.
This UK-first development is possible thanks to the ongoing support of Yogscast.
