Fundraisers Gear up for Cots for Tots
Covering a mammoth 255 miles all the way from Wales down to Devon, James and four fellow fundraisers took on the ride of their life this summer to give something back to the incredible team that saved his son’s life.
In 2010, James and Kerri welcomed their baby boy Charlie into the world. Unfortunately, Charlie soon found himself rushed to St Michael’s Hospital after being starved of oxygen at birth. During this agonising time, Charlie underwent cooling treatment. Cooling newborns who have suffered a lack of oxygen is vital to increase their chances of survival without brain damage. Charlie was in fact the first baby in the country to have the full course of this revolutionary treatment which alters chemical processes in the brain to reduce the risk of permanent damage. Despite having an 80% chance of disability Charlie amazingly made a full recovery and is now a happy and healthy boy. With this traumatic time leaving a lasting impression on both mum and dad, they decided to fundraise for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Cots for Tots House.
Over three days in scorching July, James and four of his friends embarked on their cracking cycle which began at Snowdonia and saw them end in Dunkeswell, Devon. Tackling 30 degree heat and huge hills during the ride, this terrific team even managed to pass by St Michael’s Hospital. So far they have raised over an enormous £3,500 and we couldn’t be any prouder of these outstanding members of Team Cots for Tots – well done!
