Bristol Children's Hospital Welcomes Back Feathers Sculpture
As Christmas preparations at the hospital are now in full swing, patients and staff were greeted by an exciting early delivery today, with the arrival of the ‘We are all Stars’ sculpture!
During the summer, the four-foot Feathers McGraw was lovingly decorated by young patients in hospital, before being put up for sale at the electrifying Gromit Unleashed 2 auction. After a competitive bidding war for the dastardly penguin, local residents Shirley and Dennis Banfield became the proud new owners of this small but very mighty sculpture!
This generous couple thought it only right to donate the starry little fella back to the very artists that created him and he will now sit in pride of place within the hospital’s activities centre. The incredible play team were there to welcome the smashing sculpture back and to thank Shirley and Dennis too. The Banfield family were even treated to a tour of the hospital sensory room from Marius, The Grand Appeal Sensory Play Practitioner.
“After realising how touching the story was behind ‘We Are All Stars’, I had my eye on him all night. Placing the winning bid right at the end of Gromit Unleashed 2 Auction was thrilling and I couldn’t be happier being here today to return him to his rightful owners.
I always knew I wanted to donate it back to the very brave children and babies at Bristol Children’s Hospital. I really hope that it will bring some joy to the patients, and families who will be staying there this Christmas. What a special way to spend my 88th birthday!”
This incredible gesture highlights the wonderful people at the heart of Gromit Unleashed 2: the patients and families of Bristol Children’s Hospital. We couldn’t be more thankful to Shirley and Dennis and their family for their kindness and generosity.
