“2019 is all about giving back”
Fantastic fundraiser Steve is gearing up for an amazing year of raising money for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital.
Lacing up his shoes he will start his fundraising journey Sunday as he takes on his first run. And it’s all for one remarkable little boy - Freddie.
Freddie was born at just 30 weeks. Instead of being able to take their baby boy home, Freddie had to remain in the expert hands of the NICU team whilst his organs and body continued to develop. But where would Steve and Emma stay? They lived over an hour away and had nowhere to go. Like many fellow NICU families, they could never have prepared for such a situation but thankfully Steve and Emma were given a room at Cots for Tots House.
Forever grateful for the support that not only Freddie received but he and his wife, Steve is preparing for an almighty challenge to say thank you. Steve will take part in FIVE events this year - Minchinhampton 10k, Bristol 10k, Cotswold Way 50k Challenge, Thames Valley 100k Challenge and Bristol Half Marathon. In doing so, he will cover the same distance as little Freddie once did; Freddie traveled a total of 200km to make it home to Bourton-on-the-Water, 82 days after his birth.
Ending his epic series of events, Steve will be joined by his brave boy to complete a very special last lap. Walking from Holiday Inn in Bristol’s to St Michael’s Hospital, they will recreate Steve and Emma’s trip to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit before they found a place to stay at Cots for Tots House. Despite representing a difficult time in their life, it’s thanks to the life-changing work of the NICU team that fearless Freddie is now a strapping young lad.
The incredible stories from you, our fundraising family, never cease to amaze us and this one is no different! We can’t wait to be cheering Steve on. If you want to help him give something back donate here.
