As the first purpose built children’s hospital in the UK we aim to keep the hospital at the forefront of paediatric care, but we need your support.

Since the hospital opened in April 2001, the Grand Appeal has continued as a revenue appeal to support the Bristol Children’s Hospital. Of course, it is the responsibility of the NHS to maintain the Hospital and provide the finest medical treatment, but we are here to fund the extras to improve the lives of children in hospital and their families. The appeal has already donated over £2million to children’s hospital since it opened, here are some of the projects we have supported:

£1.3 million for a new child friendly MRI scanner that opened earlier this year.

£535,000 towards the new family accommodation units on St Michaels Hill (CLIC & Ronald McDonald Houses).

£120,000 for a digital X-Ray system installed last year as one of the first hospitals in the country to have this system.

Over 20,000 towards the hospital Arts programme including the music therapist, photography project and Arts festival.

We also provide funding for:
Part-time Physiotherapist Assistant
Computers for the School Room
Equipment for the Intensive Care Unit
Sleep laboratory refurbishment
Facilities for Outpatients
Ongoing funding for the Arts co-ordinator and associated Arts and Entertainments projects.

And much much more…last year alone the appeal provided £1.3 million worth of equipment and other facilities to the hospital.

But we couldn’t do it without the help of the people of Bristol and the South West and you could help to…

NEW DEVELOPMENTS
At the Children's Hospital

In January 2006 work began to extend the Bristol Children’s Hospital to add a new medical ward for children suffering from a complex range of medical conditions who need to be constantly monitored. The Grand Appeal needs to raise £75,000 to create a child centred, art enhanced, comforting environment for these children and their families as well as a new Garden for the hospital. This is a very exciting development for the children’s hospital that will be using art to directly aid the child’s treatment and recovery which will enable a new model of patient care to be established.

The medical ward will treat children aged 0-12 years old suffering from a range of non surgical medical conditions including cyistic fibrosis, rheumatological arthritis, diabetes and those children with special needs that require specialist individual care.

The ward will be designed and built throughout to accord with the child’s perspective, not only of physical dimensions, but more importantly of atmosphere. The design of the ward will make extensive use of art, both as a healing process in itself and, as interactive art, a means of stimulating the child’s imagination. Special facilities will be created for parents and siblings ranging from patient bedrooms which enable the family to operate as a unit, to sympathetically designed rest areas where parents may reflect, talk in private to doctors, and perhaps draw strength from others undergoing similar experiences.

We need your help to raise the £75,000 for this exciting new Ward. If you
would like to get involved please call the Appeal on 0800 919 649 or click here to email us.
