Daniel Chiles Star Tribute Fund
On November 13th Daniel Chiles would have been celebrating his 21st Birthday. On Friday January 12th 2007, he tragically lost his brave fight against ‘germ cell’, a rarely known form of cancer that develops in just 45 children in the UK each year.
The Daniel Chiles Star Tribute Fund, has already contributed almost £10,000 to Bristol Children’s Hospital.
A tribute fund can be set up for a child or an adult and to support a particular ward or service within the hospital. The fund can then be added to over time, to commemorate special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries or by donations raised through organised events.
The scheme can also be joined on-line, where a virtual star and dedication can be added to the website’s virtual sky.

Jack Banks Star Tribute Fund
Information taken from www.justgiving.com/jackbanks
My son, Jack, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia when he was just 4 years old.
Two years after receiving chemo and a bone marrow transplant, from his brother Joe, Jack relapsed. He received further chemo from which he developed a life threatening fungal infection on his lungs. Miraculously Jack recovered from this and went on to find himself in remission again; however, the lung infection had left him too weak to undergo a second bone marrow transplant.
For just over a year Jack remained well, but following a routine bone marrow test, it was confirmed that Jack had relapsed a second time. After yet more chemo, an unrelated donor was found for his 2nd bone marrow transplant. Jack was admitted for his transplant and spent 2 months in hospital. Sadly, Jack developed chest problems and it was found that he had developed pneumonia. Jack passed away on the 23rd July 2008, aged 9, with his mum and dad led beside him, holding his brother’s hand.
Through all of this Jack remained a strong character; he had a wicked sense of humour and endless sense of fun. Our home feels so empty without him and I feel that I need to do something positive out of something that has brought me and my family so much pain and sadness.
I have set up a Star Tribute Fund, in Jacks memory, to raise funds for the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit and Oncology Ward in Bristol Children’s Hospital in the hope that I can help make life a little better for all those children I have met over the past years and sadly, for those who will be newly diagnosed in the future.
The Banks’ Family have raised over £25,000 in memory of Jack. To make a donation in memory of Jack contact The Grand Appeal or visit www.justgiving.com/jackbanks
